This copy was owned by the author Henry H Gibbs, dated 1851 and he has in a very neat copperplate added some marginalia and extended the family tree on the reverse of the folding plate as pictured. Earl of Huntingdon is a title, which has been created several times in the Peerage of England. The title is chiefly associated with the Hastings family. "The genealogical account of the family is wholly recomposed from the most authentic sources, and the singular circumstances attending the establishment of the claim to the title . are detailed with more spirit and vivacity than truth" - Lowndes. The previous owner has updated the family tree along with some marginalia on page 343. CONDITION The binding is firm. The inner hinges have been reinforced. There is seem wear to the extremities, including bumping and rubbing. The pages are generally clean and bright with some minor spotting. There is a small closed tear on the front endpaper. There are institutional nameplates on the front endpapers, as well as an ink inscription. There are institutional ink stamps on some of the pages.
