Size 4.5” x 7” 275 pages -foxing throughout Robbins was among the crew of Captain James Riley's ill-fated slaving expedition to Africa aboard the Brig Commerce. Captured by passing nomads after running aground off the African coast, the crew suffered abuse and severe thirst and hunger during their journey through the Sahara. Captain Riley released a book of the same account, “Authentic Narrative of the Loss of the American Brig 'Commerce,' ” but Robbins' journal narrates from the perspective of a crew member, describing in detail the challenges they endured as they struggled to get back home.
