He was imprisoned for the second time in his life due to this publication. However, he was released shortly after without a formal trial, working off the plea that the book had been duly licensed.Wither was a prolific English poet, pamphleteer, satirist and writer of hymns, whose life spanned the reigns of Elizabeth I, James I, and Charles I, the Civil War, the Parliamentary period and the Restoration period. CONDITION Rebound in paper covered boards, with endpapers renewed. Light fading to spine and board perimeters, with minor mark to rear board at joint. Internally, firmly bound. Title page lightly age toned, with pages otherwise generally clean and bright, with only the odd spot.
