Description: An Explanatory Pronouncing Dictionary of the French Language, (In French and English); Wherein the exact Sound and Articulation of every Syllable are distinctly marked (according to the Method adopted by Mr. Walker, in his Pronouncing Dictionary.) To which are prefixed, The Principles of the French Pronunciation; Prefatory Directions for using the Spelling Representative of every Sound; and the Conjugation of the Verbs, Regular, Irregular, and Defective, with their true Pronunciation. By L'Abbé Tardy. A New Edition, Revised. London: Longman, Hurst, Rees, Orme, and Brown, 1814. 1819 signature of James Bowdoin - I believe this is James Bowdoin (Winthrop) d.1833; nephew of James Bowdoin III, he dropped his last name after his uncle's death (inheriting a large part of the estate from which Bowdoin College also received one of its founding benefactions). Ex-library (Bowdoin College), modern cloth binding with top corners bumped and a little fraying at top of spine. Pages yellowed with foxing, creases, small tears, minor blemishes. More noteworthy tears to original front endpapers. Good.
