Description: "Le Nouveau TESTAMENT De Notre Seigneur Jesus-Christ, En Francais, Sur La Vulgate, Traduction De L. M. De Sacy. Revue Sur Les Meilleures Editions. Vol. I [ & Vol. II] Boston: De L'Imprimerie De J. T. Buckingham, 1810." First American New Testament Holy Bible in French! This Ultra-rare American First Edition was prepared for use among French Canadians and French emigrates in the U.S. This is the first American printing of a complete French Testament, either Old or New. Profoundly scarce! Considered one of a Dozen Foundational Bibles of any American Bible Collection! The translation is the French standard that first appeared in 1667, although shortly after in 1669, it was condemned by Pope Clement IX as Jansenist and placed on the index of forbidden books. This edition contains both Volume 1 and 2 bound together. Good condition. Full calf binding has bumps and scuffs from shelf wear. Binding itself remains somewhat tight. Pages are in good shape, displaying fading, staining and foxing, but the text is still wonderfully readable. Flyleaf is inscribed with the name "Ann C. P. Carter."
