This is the first edition. Joseph Warton was an English academic and literary critic. He was the older brother of Thomas Warton and a friend of Samuel Johnson. CONDITION In a half calf binding. There is some wear to the extremities, including bumping to the corners, cracks on the spine and rubbing and general wear to the boards. The binding is loose, but secure, with both covers and all pages attached, although the front board is only attached by the cords and may come away in the post. The cords are otherwise not visible. Internally the pages are generally bright and clean with some mild brown spotting that is more prominent on the first and last few pages, handling marks, and ink and pencil inscriptions on the front end papers.
