Description: 17th Century Original Dutch Landscape Etching by ANTHONIE WATERLOO (1609-1690) A MULETEER ON A PATH, IN A WOODLAND LANDSCAPE, WITH A STREAM TO THE LEFT AND A VILLAGE IN THE DISTANCE. One of a series of 6 landscapes, which were unnumbered, designated as Hollstein 47-52. This one is Hollstein 48. British Museum gives a wide date range of 1640-1690. Signed in the plate top right. CONDITION: The main problem is some rippling and discolouration at the top corners caused by its having been laid down to a support sheet. A good impression, well inked, with excellent tonal contrast and exquisite detail as we expect from Anthonie Waterloo's compositions. Printed on "laid" paper, nicely age-toned, which is further tipped in to another support sheet. Signs of it having been stuck in an album visible to reverse of backing sheet. Trimmed to thread margins, close at top and left side. (Because of the support sheets, I cannot show anything useful on the lightbox). Please use the zoom facility. DIMENSIONS: Platemark area measures 12.7 x 14.4 centimetres: total area including support sheets is is 19 x 24.4 centimetres.
