Complete in two volumes.Bishop George Horne was an English churchman, academic, writer and Fellow of Magdalen College. King George III appointed Horne to Dean of Canterbury, a position he help until 1781. Horne was a prolific ecclesiastical author, writing a series of religious texts, of which A Commentary on the Book of Psalms was one of his earliest. In this work Horne reflects upon how the Psalms interact with each other, The Old Testament and The Bible as a whole. The Psalms are a Old Testament Book of one hundred and fifty Psalms, divided into five sections. CONDITION In full tree calf bindings with gilt detail to the spine. Externally smart with rubbing to the extremities and the head of the spine resulting in some slight loss to the leather at the head and tail of the spines. Joints starting but firm. A few light marks to the boards. Internally firmly bound. Pages bright and clean with just some marginal age-toning and the odd spot. Ink inscription for 'Marie Anne Whittaker' to title page on each volume.
