His coffee houses attracted eminent visitors and became a political meeting place due to Freeth's material demonstrating his radical, nonconformist views. Freeth's works were published in more than a dozen collections between 1766 and 1805, with the likes of John Baskerville among his printers. This work is one of his most substantial. and contains ballads on war, national emergencies, and affairs of the state including the victories of Earl Howe and Lord Nelson.
