DATE PRINTED: 1785 or shortly afterwards.SIZE: The printed area including titles is approximately 19 x 15.5 cm, 7.5 x 6 inches (medium) plus margins. ARTIST/CARTOGRAPHER/ENGRAVER: Engraved by Peter Mazell from an original study by the Rev Charles Cordiner. Peter Mazell was an Irish painter and engraver, working in London between c. 1761 and 1797. He is known for his fine engravings of natural history subjects, especially those illustrating books by John Walcott and the Welsh naturalist Thomas Pennant. , Charles Cordiner (1746?–1794), Scottish Episcopal clergyman and antiquary, lived most of his life in Banff, and became minister of St Andrew's Chapel there in 1769. He died at Banff 18 Nov. 1794, aged 48, leaving a widow and eight children. Few other biographical details concerning him survive. PROVENANCE: Produced for 'Remarkable ruins, and romantic prospects, of North Britain : with ancient monuments, and singular subjects of natural history' by Charles Cordiner. First issued in parts, 1788-95. TYPE: Antique copper plate engraving printed on laid paper. VERSO: There is nothing printed on the reverse side, which is blank. CONDITION: Good. Suitable for framing.
