REVOLUTIONARY WAR-DATED DOCUMENT ACQUIRING A LARGE SUM OF MONEY FOR WILLIAM HEATH TO OVERSEE THE CONVENTION ARMY FOLLOWING THE BATTLE OF SARATOGA Revolutionary War-dated autograph document signed by General William Heath’s aide-de-camp, Jonathon Pollard, acquiring a large sum of money to oversee the Convention Army: “To Ebenezer Hancock Esqr. Deputy Paymaster General to the Forces of the United States of America. Sir, Pay Major Pollard One Thousand Six Hundred & Sixty Dollars in full of my Pay from the first of October 1777, to the first of March 1778, as Major General [Comm]anding the Eastern Departme[nt]. Received the Witness for Major Genl. Heath, Jona. Pollard A.D.C.” Following the Battle of Saratoga, General Heath was put in charge of the Convention Army, which consisted of British prisoners of war from John Burgoyne’s army. Contains one page, measures 7.375 by 4.5 inches, and in good condition with heavy staining, dampstaining, paper loss, and having been professionally repaired.
