Description: The Gentleman's Magazine1746Maps! Original 1746 London volume including the two maps in rear, one of which - "A New Chart of the Coast of NEW ENGLAND, NOVA SCOTIA, NEW FRANCE or CANADA with the Island of Newfoundland, Cape Breton, St. John's, etc...". , depicts New England (Maine, Massachusetts, &c.) and eastern Canada (Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, &c.) - is quite a rarity. On the map - Boston, Mount Desert Island, Salem, Marblehead, Cambridge, Wells, Penobscot, Quebec, Gulf of Laurence, Cape Breton, Louisbourg, New France, &c. Map is sizable measuring about 17 x 14 inches. The other engravings are nifty, lots of inventions and tinkering-type projects. Also, Lilliput - Samuel Johnson's reporting, & more. Marbled boards are quite worn, but steady still, some toning within, some small tears at edge of map, what appears to be old archival paper pasted on rear of map, map curls a bit on one edge, some trimming, overall quite nice if age-worn. The other folding map at rear is 'Map of the Countries Adjacent to Carlisle showing the route of the Rebels...". Bookplate of Sir Humphrey de Trafford, 4th Baronet (grandfather of Brigadier Andrew Parker Bowles, prominent racehorse owner). Scarce volume, terrific maps. ******We ship swiftly and with safety in mind.Thank you.
