Description: King John.An engraving by George Vertue (imprint bottom right) of the King associated with the Magna Carta. It seems to be quite scarce. One museum (National Portrait Gallery, Scotland) dates another in the series (King Richard III) 1745, but gives no clue as to where it came from. The note top right clearly suggests this is from a book, and I have seen it suggested that the series was from a book published in 8 volumes by Vertue "A Tour of Wales." Whatever, it is a fine small portrait, one of four in the series that I am selling on ebay (please see my other items). Size: the sheet measures approx. 19cms x 12cms.Condition: A bit rough down the right-hand edge where taken from the book, otherwise in a good condition. Please study the photographs.
