Boards are all moderately scuffed at edges and bumped/worn at corners. Vol. I's front board attached by one piece of cording only - vey fragile. Front and rear hinges of all volumes are split; binding exposed. Heads and tails of Vols. II-V are lacking. Head and tail of Vol. I chipped. Red moroccan leather title labels lacking on Vols. II-IV. Title label on Vol. V heavily chipped. Gilt lettering on all volumes heavily soiled, but mostly legible. Deco in spine compartments of Vol. I are soiled, but still attractive. White ex-library hand-writing found on all tails of spines but Vol. I. Ex-library bookplates found on all front paste-downs: Berkley Divinity School 1853 (Vol. I); St. Bernard's Seminary Library Given by Rev. Hip. De Regge (Vols. II-V). Top corner of front end-page lacking in Vol. IV (most likely a previous ownership signature). Instances of ex-library marginalia on some title pages (in pencil). Frontispieces are all intact; red lettering remains overall crisp on title pages. Bindings are fragile. Please see photos. Laurence Echard (c. 1670-1730) was an English historian and clergyman. He wrote a History of England that was a standard work in its time. He made numerous compilations on history, geography and the classics. His chief work is The History of England: from the first entrance of Julius Caesar and the Romans to the end of the reign of King James the first containing the space of 1678 years (1707-1720), covering the period from the Roman occupation to his own times.
