Michel de Castelnau, Sieur de la Mauvissière (1520-1592) was a French soldier and diplomat, ambassador to Queen Elizabeth. He wrote these memoirs covering the period between 1559 and 1570. The memoirs rank very high among the original authorities for the period they cover (11 years). They were written during his last embassy in England for the benefit of his son, and they possess the merits of clearness, veracity, and impartiality. They were first printed in 1621; then in 1659 and 1731 as two volume folios. These editions present very well, and are able to be handled/read through with care. FORN-MSB-0623-0707-HK123
