Soviet self-propelled gun SU-76 SU-76 is a Soviet self-propelled gun from World War II. The first prototypes of this machine were built in 1942, and mass production continued from 1942 to 1945. During this time, about 14,000 vehicles of this type were created. The vehicle's armament consisted of a 76.2 mm ZIS-3 cannon. The SU-76 self-propelled gun was developed on the basis of the T-70 light tank. It was initially assumed that the SU-76 would be a tank destroyer, but in practice on the Eastern Front it was very often used to support its own infantry in defense and attack with direct and indirect fire. Although it was developed relatively quickly, if not hastily, it turned out to be a very successful weapon, relatively cheap to manufacture and easy to use. The main modification of the SU-76 was the vehicle designated SU-76M (SU-15), which increased reliability, used one gearbox to operate both engines, and significantly reduced the level of vibration in the vehicle. SU-76 vehicles were widely used during combat operations on the Eastern Front, and also, on a smaller scale, during the Korean War (1950-1953) by the armed forces of North Korea.
