Description: Douglas SBD Dauntless custom built model WW2 dive bomber. Not a flea market or attic find, a recent custom built model with enamel spray paint, fresh decals and hand painted details. The Dauntless earned its place in history as the hero of the Battle of Midway. Torpedo bombing and level bombing was ineffective against the Japanese carrier fleet but high angle dive bombing by SBDs sank four Japanese carriers in a matter of a few hours, turning the tide of the Pacific war in an instant. The model is depicted as an early war 1942 version as would have been used at Midway. Note that the traditional red center dot on the American aircraft insignia and red and white tail stripes are painted out. The color red was completely deleted after earlier experiences and confusion with the Japanese big red "meatball" insignia which marked their aircraft. The Dauntless was an excellent plane, which still served long after its supposed replacement, the Curtis Helldiver came into service. This is a scale model collectors item to be handled with care, not a childs toy to be played with! Has small and sharp parts that could break off if mishandled. Buyer should expect the possibility of small parts coming detached in shipment but model is very well built and will be carefully packed (check my feedback) and damage is quite unlikely.
