1712/1713 JOHN BASKETT HOLY BIBLE 2nd printing RARE SUSANNAH COLLINS 1717 PSALMS

Description: See below description, as this copy includes both a very rare John Baskett Bible as well as a 1717 Psalm Book printed by Mrs. Susannah Collins. Very early Holy Bible printing from John Baskett. Herbert shows the first documented printing by John Baskett as an 8vo Holy Bible with a general title dated 1711 and a New Testament title dated 1712. The next two John Baskett entries in the Herbert Catalog are for this particular 12mo copy. The print run must have crossed over from 1712 to 1713, so some general titles have the year of 1712 and others 1713. Both entries show the New Testament title as dated 1713. This copy is missing the general title page, but the New Testament title page is present. Also looks to be missing the first page of Matthew. So it's unclear if the general title was dated 1712 or 1713. Either way this, copy is of John Baskett's second printing of the Holy Bible, which was his first documented 12mo printing. Early John Baskett Bibles and Testament's prior to the year 1715 are very scarce. If the rarity of this edition was not enough, it's also bound with a scarce 1717 Book of Psalms printed in London by Susannah Collins. This is a nice collection piece for anyone interested in women's history! It's not often you run across a book from this time period that was printed by a woman. Bible has been nicely rebound at a later date, binding shows some wear, but is overall solid and has an attractive spine. Lots of family history on front and rear blanks. As stated above, missing general title page. Some margins cut close. Strip missing from outer edge of title page for the 1717 Psalm Book at rear. Measures about 6" x 3.75" and about 1.75" thick.
