Description: ORIGINAL 16th CENTURY FLEMISH OLD MASTER ETCHING CHRIST HEALS THE CRIPPLED WOMAN. Christ, seated on the right, places his hand on the head of a crippled woman, surrounded by the Apostles. By PHILIPS GALLE (1537-1612) after a design by ANTHONIE BLOCKLANDT VAN MONTFOORT (1563-1583) Signed/inscribed by both Blocklandt and Galle, bottom centre. Plate number 6 lower left. Caption in Latin at the bottom. From the series of six plates entitled "Christ and Women from the Gospels". Engraved by Galle in the years 1575-1580. Published in Antwerp, 1580. Size is approx. 21 x 26 centimetres. CONDITION. Very good for its age, over 400 years old. A lovely early impression on thin "laid" paper, delightfully age-toned, with a small watermark/filigrane. Trimmed to the image line, but with no loss. NOTE ESPECIALLY: losses and abrasions at top left and top right corners, traces of old tape caused by old mounting, which have been reinforced at the back. See my photo on the lightbox.
