Description: We are offering for sale a rare and very beautiful, 1850’s "Gutta Percha” / Sixth Plate / Thermoplastic Tintype / Photograph Hard Case titled "CHILD IN TREE”. This beautiful Critchlow Case measures approx. 3 3/4" x 3 1/4" (outer measurements) and the interior opening accommodates one 1/6 Plate size Image. The molded design on the front and rear of the Case are identical and features an image of a child up in a tree with scythe. This central image is surrounded by a nice classic border. The Case is jet black in color and exceptionally attractive. The design is designated as Berg No. 1-93 and titled "CHILD IN TREE”. The Case contains a wondeful Tintype featuring a CIVIL WAR SOLDIER sitting on what appears to be a front porch. He is in uniform. Side can not be determinated. NICE, CLEAR IMAGE! This rare and original, 1850's Critchlow Case is in very good condition. The molded images on both sides are crisp and sharp with light wear. The surfaces retain their original surface shine with some dust present; Case could use a detailed cleaning. All of the corners are sharp and without damage. The Case closes squarely and clasps shut.
