DOA bug disclaimer: Please have someone available to receive the package when delivered or have your post office hold for pick up. Packages left in mailboxes or unattended in areas exposed to direct sunlight or other source of high or low temperatures may result in dead ladybugs. It is your responsibility, not ours, to take whatever steps are needed to prevent overheated bugs. Some people think we control the post office, we do not. Once the package is in their hands, we can do nothing about how long they take to deliver, If the delay is long or the package is lost, we will replace the shipment if there is an excessive amount of dead bugs. The bugs are very sturdy, they have survived up to 3 weeks in transit many times. If you should happen to get DOA bugs, do not dispose of them, take a foto, you may be required to return them for a refund or replacement. We are aware that 1500 bugs do not look like 1500 should, however 1/3 of a cup is 1500 bugs. I have measured and counted the bugs from 1/3 of a cup and that is correct. This is also correct for two ounces. Every order we sell has the bugs measured first, bagged, then weighed before shipping. We do not store excess bugs; we really do harvest our bugs every week. USE: Lady bugs prefer to eat aphids and will devour up to 50 a day, but they will also attack scale, mealy bugs, boil worms, leafhopper, and corn ear worm. They dine only on insects and do not harm vegetation in any way. RELEASE: Lady bugs should always be released after sundown since they only fly in the daytime. During the night, they will search the area for food and stay as long as there is food for them to eat. The more they eat the more eggs they lay and the more insect eating larvae you will have. It is best if the area has been recently watered. Ladybugs tend to crawl up and toward light. So release them in small groups at the base of plants and shrubs that have aphids or other insects, and in the lower part of trees. RECOMMENDATIONS: Ladybugs may be kept in the refrigerator after they are received (35-50 degrees F.) and released as needed. Ladybugs received March through May should not be stored more than 2 to 3 days since their body fat has been depleted. From June on, they may be stored 2 to 3 months. It is normal for there to be several dead Ladybugs in the container, especially those received from March through May. These bugs have reached the end of their life cycle.
