It is a hard to describe its flavor but many consider the taste to be similar to that of mint although the appearance represents closely to basil. It has sometimes been described as minty, other times as having hints of cinnamon, and some people describe it to have citrusy tones. The best way to find out what Perilla tastes like is to grow some! It is easy! And fast growing, can grow up to 3 feet high and 1.5 feet wide. 1. Choose a location: Perilla thrives in full sun or partial shade. Select a spot that receives at least 3 hours of full sun each day and has well-drained soil enriched with plenty of organic matter. 2. Planting: You can start perilla seeds indoors approximately two months prior to transplanting after the anger of frost is over. The seeds can take anywhere from one to three weeks to germinate. Once the seedlings have reached three inches tall, it’s time to move them outdoors. Alternatively, you can direct sow the seeds outdoors after all threat of frost has passed. 3.
