THE PRESIDENT WAS CARRIED FROM THE THEATRE TO THE NEARBY BOARDINGHOUSE OF WILLIAM PETERSON. IN A ROOM RENTED TO WILLIAM CLARK, LINCOLN DIED AT 7:22 AM, APRIL 15, 1865. WHEN HE DIED, SECRETARY OF WAR STANTON MADE HIS FAMOUS REMARK, "NOW HE BELONGS TO THE AGES". THE PHOTO SHOWS AN IMAGE OF JOHN H. LITTLEFIELD'S PAINTING, "THE DEATH BED OF LINCOLN".
