The institution originated amongst the Norsemen of Scandinavia, and was brought to Anglo-Saxon England by the Danish conquest in the 11th century. They were well-trained, and paid as full-time soldiers. In England, the royal housecarls had a number of roles, both military and administrative, and they fought under Harold Godwinson at the Battle of Hastings. The term entered the English language when Svein Forkbeard and Cnut the Great conquered and occupied Anglo-Saxon England. Housecarls were only one group of paid soldiers or hired men who fought for England before the Norman Conquest. The Norman Conquest (or the Conquest) was the 11th-century invasion and occupation of England by an army made up of thousands of Norman, French, Flemish, and Breton troops, all led by the Duke of Normandy, later styled William the Conqueror.Ray Lamb (UK) made his name known by winning in 1973 at the BMSS with his "Chasseur à Cheval". Ray started sculpting some 75mm for Hinchliffe in 1973; also a Taisho Samourai in 150mm. In 1975, he founded his own "Poste Militaire" brand; creating mostly 90mm. Other sculptors included J. Hullis, D. Hansen, K. Durham, and Mike Good.Minor scratches on battle axe handle (see pic)Your shipment will arrive via USPS Priority Mail (1-4 business days) or USPS Ground Advantage (2-5 business days), after the 2-3 day processing time (upon paid purchase)Shipment(s) sent out of Lemon Grove, California, USAWill be packed very well - READ OUR FEEDBACK!No Returns ***AN INVOICE WILL BE SENT AFTER PURCHASE, WHICH MAY REFLECT A MORE ACCURATE POSTAGE RATE FOR THIS ITEM - DON'T PASS THIS UP YET!
