10/28/63 Letter Ohio Soldier Hank Coffman, from Hospital

Description: Condition as seen. Oct the 28, 1863 Dear Brother, It is with great pleasure. I take this opportunity of writing a few lines to you to let you know that I am still on the land of the and I am still in the hospital, but I am not well yet, but if I have good luck, I think I will be well sometime. I received your kind and welcome letter and was glad to hear from you, but was sorry to hear that you was not very well but when this comes to hand, I hope it will find you all well. I got a letter from Jenny and. Jenny and father was not very well but I hope that they will get well soon for I have had sickness enough for the whole family. Jenny sent me a box of knickknacks and they go pretty well. Susan was well the last I heard of her. I got a letter from Margaret Heron. They was all well at that time. I have not heard from my regiment now for a long time, but I think I will get transferred or go to my regiment before long. I hope I will for I am tired of this place. There was a man from Ohio to see the soldiers and he said that he was going to have us transferred inside of 7 days and the 7 days will soon be up, but I don’t put much confidence in the orders anymore, but I hope I will get to Camp Chase and then I will be close to my old native land. I am sorry to hear that you have had to take Jack back. You said in one of your letters that you would give me $25 for the ____ and I thought it was a bargain and you said that you would take Jack for his work until I called for him, but if you want to backwater all right. You can trade or sell him to the best advantage for I cannot afford to pay the prices for scarce of money, but payday will soon be here, but I don’t know whether I will get any pay this time or not for my role was not here. The last time want to see ____ it. You may take the little colt at $25 and do what you please with Jack. I am done dealing in horses for a half in stock for the present. I will send a ring that I made in this letter for Jayne. Right soon to the same place. Farewell from,Hank Coffman
