1000 Switchgrass Switch Grass Seeds ‘Cave In Rock’ Panicum virgatum

Description: 1000 Switchgrass Switch Grass Seeds ‘Cave In Rock’ Panicum virgatum ********** This popular native grass is common in many native restorations. It can grow it's airy seedheads in a wide range of soils, and is a medium height, making it a useful species. This grass is a warm season perennial, so the songbirds feast on the seeds into the fall season. In addition to being one of the main species of the tallgrass prairie, this plant provides good forage for grazing animals and refuge for birds and other wildlife. It also has value as an ornamental plant because of its airy, copper-tinted seed heads. The genus name "Panicum" comes from the Latin word for millet, since that grain is in the same plant family as this native grass. MORE INFO: Sowing: Direct sow either in late fall or early spring. Plant the seed just below the surface of the soil, compacting the soil very firmly. Keep the soil lightly moist until germination, since this seed cannot germinate in dry soil. Growing: Water seedlings regularly until they become established. This plant adapts well to either dry or moist soil, as well as tolerating drought and heat well. It also adapts well to various soil types such as sand and clay. It will eventually spread by rhizomes and self-seeding. This plant makes an very good choice for erosion control, and also provides forage and cover for birds and other wildlife. It is an excellent ornamental grass, and grows well in marshy areas as well as prairies. Seed Saving: At the end of the season, the seed heads will begin to ripen. Strip the mature seed from the stem and store it in a cool, dry place. ONE FLAT SHIPPING FEE OF $4.29 FOR ORDERS IN THE UNITED STATES NO MATTER HOW MANY SEEDS YOU ORDER.
