Heirloom, Non-GMO. Benincasa hispida. 85-95 days. Warm season annual. This oblong-shaped wax gourd can reach 20 pounds. The light green skin is covered with very fine hair and will form a white waxy powder when mature. The waxy layer that forms over the ripe fruit protects the melon and allows for long storage periods. Sow seeds in late spring/early summer after last frost in a warm, sunny location. Soak the seeds in warm water for 24 hours to soften the hard seed coat. Hill planting: Form soil into a 1-ft. diameter mound 3-4" tall. Space mounds 4-6' apart.
