Pease, Jr. Collection, so rare it is almost mythical, a $10 as G10 Wolka Proprietary Proof from the series of 1800's, Toledo, Ohio- Marine Bank, that was graded by PMG SUPERB GEM UNCIRCULATED 67 EPQ. The Marine bank was one of the last free banks to be organized in the state, having been organized during the course of 1860-61. Formerly known as E. Parmelee & Co., the Marine Bank was absorbed by the second National Bank of Toledo in 1864. The Marine Bank last notes were issued in June, 1864. The $10 design, approprietly enough, has a vignette of several sailing vessels. In addition, the state banking die and an oval portrait of Salmon Chase appear. A large green TEN protector completes the design. This is a modern Proprietary Proof, printed by ABNCo. using the original plates in the 20th century for general corporate purposes or programs. This is further identified as such because the tint used on the original production notes was orange-red as opposed to green. The note is printed on paper stamped with both Specimen and company Property Stamps on the back. With issued notes from the bank either excessively rare or non-existent, this may be the only way to acquire the design any time soon. This piece is well margined and has an exceptional paper quality, attractive counters, and a wonderful well preserved Proprietary Proof.
