The Honeywell 1900 was the next model and frankly NOTHING works as good as these units for both reliability and durability.That said, laptops can be sensitive to these units as therse units need a full power USB port and draw roughly 420mAH. Even some desktops can rarely have an issue. If you have an issue, do NOT open a case please. These are configured out of the box to work in ANY Windows system-please do not mess with the program unless you need to do something application specific. If you have a power issue on your computer which is rare on a desktop, you can remove other USB devices near the scanner and it will work sometimes.
