Description: 0652----c.1923 Bethany Church id'd photo Lake Township - Mercer PA Poole Rd Very nice original cabinet photo with identified people congregating outside the Bethany Church, Lake Township, Mercer County PA. The old church was located about 3 miles from Stoneboro PA, on Poole Road, until it's sale in 1940. The adjoining cemetery still exists in in its original location. Some of the surnames include Zahniser, Hamilton, Nicklin, Kemm, Runkle, etc. These were very well known names in the Lake Township, Stoneboro, and Five Points area. I have acquired several photos from these families in various local auctions, so I have researched and familiar with these surnames. Based on the research, particularly the birth years of some of the younger people in the photo, I can date this photo from about 1923-1924. Looks like an after service gathering behind the church, or maybe a special family event. There are 21 people identified on the reverse side, but several more are hidden, and not id'd. The names appear from left to right. Some names only have the first initial of the surname, so I have placed the surname in parentheses which I believe to be accurate. Based on how the names were listed, my best guess is this photo was owned and identified by the wife of Donald Hamilton (Margaret) who is possibly holding "Betty and Billy" beside Donald. She did not identify herself but this is clearly a woman holding the children. This photo is in good condition. Overall measurement is 10 x 6.
